New Master Mechanical Engineering SPO
In the coming summer semester 2025, a new study and examination regulation (SPO) for the Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering will start at KIT. This is characterized by its great freedom of choice and at the same time strong profile development.
Instead of traditional compulsory subjects, the key skills in mechanical engineering are acquired in a series of different elective catalogs, so that everyone can acquire the basic knowledge they need. These include topics from the fields of data science, design, simulation and modeling.
In addition, the Master's degree, with its wide range of interdisciplinary compulsory electives, offers an excellent opportunity to think outside the box. The new subject “Technology & Society” explicitly addresses the future responsibility of engineers in society.
In two major specializations, a strong personal profile is then created. The more than 20 specializations cover the entire broad professional field of mechanical engineering at KIT. Among other things, there are specialization options in the fields of energy technology, automotive engineering, lightweight construction, microsystems technology, production engineering, product development, robotics & AI, supply chain technologies and materials-oriented technologies. The very popular specialization in Medical Engineering will continue to exist in the new Master's degree. This is currently being fundamentally revised, further information will follow as soon as available.
For further information on the new Master's in Mechanical Engineering, we would like to refer you to the slides from our information event. There is also a file on the faculty website with an overview of the current curriculum and the specializations offered.
If you have any questions about the new SPO MACH, you are welcome to leave us a message at any time via our contact form on the website, and if you have questions about individual courses, we recommend that you contact the respective professors directly.
